Hong Kong Dai Pai Dong 大牌檔 Block Print. Open Edition
A original block print capturing the culturally significant food stall of Hong Kong.
A dai pai dong or 大排檔 is a food stall that is associated with Hong Kong heritage. They are usually open aired food stalls, not uncommonly found on a little corner of the pavement, with a few tables and plastic stools and lots of plastic bowls and chopsticks. The food, however, is cheap, excellent, authentic and full of 'wok hei'.
Here, I have tried to capture the green steel kitchen, the tiny surrounding tables and stools, the cheap plastic tableware, the lack of air conditioning and the kitchen equipment and stock overflowing onto the street. This is a perfect print to remind you of 'real' Hong Kong, either for foodies, or as a unique souvenir.
